“Winning this award was the turning point for me to want to do this in college and professionally,” Northwestern senior Justin Adamson said. “I never thought that I would be able to do this at the professional level, it was a hobby for me.”
The students awarded were Adamson, Northwestern junior Devin Chen and Northwestern student Justin Prack.
The video uses student actors to demonstrate the tough times students who are bullied go through.
“We wanted them to be able to connect with the video,” Adamson said. “Instead of focusing on the bullying aspect, we focused on what impact it had on students. It was seeing how much (bullying) affects people and how much your words and action can hurt someone else.”

Chen said he knew someone younger than him who was having a hard time and he felt like he needed to help.
“I wanted to make a video for the bullies to show the feelings that they cause in others,” Chen said. “The isolation and the terrible feeling that they cause.”
The students made the video as part of the school’s television news broadcast, Warriors News Broadcast Channel, teacher Lisa Boggess said.
“We have a very important outlet by having WNBC,” she said. “It reaches the seventh and eighth grade and the high school. The whole school watches. I thought this was a good way to address bullying.”
The students worked hard on the video, Boggess said.

“They really worked on the lighting, the sound, when they shot the video they thought about the backgrounds,” she said. “They thought about every last detail.”
The students were honored by the Northwestern Local School Board of Education. If anyone is protected from bullying because of the video, then it has done its job, Chen said.
“We don’t have to change the world,” he said. “If one person can see it and change their ways and empathize with people going through the hard times, then all the work that we have done would be worth it.”
