Springfield Foundation awarding more than $500K in scholarships

The Springfield Foundation has awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships for the 2020-2021 academic year, according to a statement from the foundation.

The foundation is awarding 170 new scholarship totaling $243,050 and renewing 120 scholarships totaling $226,250, the statement said.

“Some of the foundation’s external scholarship committees have provided their selections and are awarding $20,400 in new scholarships. The remaining external scholarship committees are in the process of choosing recipients and have an additional $108,650 to award,” the statement said. “In total, $598,350 in scholarship awards will be made through the Springfield Foundation.”

Scholarship winners were chosen from a pool of 441 applications this year, the statement said.

“Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, character, community service and extra-curricular activities,” the statement said. “Congratulations to this year’s scholarship recipients.”
