“It is so important for our kids to know how important it is to go to college. A lot of our kids work so hard and they don’t get to see the reward in their hand. So when they get that scholarship, it motivates them. It lets them know that their work is not in vain.”
She said when other students see their peers getting scholarships and being accepted into college, it makes them want to work harder so they can make it too, Strother said.
Springfield City students got to hear presentations and meet alumni of Greek letter organizations. They also met with representatives of schools and watched a performance by the Central State University band and the Wilberforce University Choir.
It is all to give students the college experience, Strother said.

“We are able to give them that experience and we can help them get their application in,” she said. “Here at Springfield High School, we get to help them.”
Strother said herself and a team of teachers and administrators at the high school work hard to put on the event every year.
