Former Clark County leader, Clark-Shawnee bus driver dies; District closing Tuesday for funeral

Clark-Shawnee Local School District will close all schools on Tuesday due to the funeral services for a bus driver, according to a Facebook post by the district.

Mark Oster, 67, of Springfield, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, according to the district.

“Mr. Oster was a dedicated driver who was a familiar face not only on our routes to and from school but also to field trips, away games and competitions,” according to the district. “He loved being part of the Shawnee Braves family and cheering our students on as they enjoyed sports and activities. He will be missed by students and colleagues, as well as many in our community.”

Oster worked for the Clark County water department for several years before becoming the director at the Clark County Board of Elections, according to his obituary. After retirement he worked as a bus driver for the Clark-Shawnee district.

“Mark was a dedicated Democrat and was active in the local Democratic Party and was highly thought of in the Springfield community,” according to his obituary.

Funeral services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Conroy Funeral Home, 1660 E. High St., with burial to follow. Visitation will be held two hours prior at the funeral home.

The family suggest a donation in memory of Oster to the charity of your choice, according to his obituary.
