Tecumseh Local Schools have picked one of its longtime administrators as the district’s next superintendent.

Paula Crew, Tecumseh assistant superintendent, will lead the district starting in August.

“I am honored to be appointed as the next superintendent of Tecumseh Local Schools,” she said. “We have an excellent group of students, staff, parents, along with an active board of education and a supportive community. We need to continue to work in collaboration to meet the needs of all students, which will continue to support our district philosophy: learning for all — whatever it takes.”

Her pay scale hasn’t been set by the board, Tecumseh Treasurer Denise Robinson said, but they have agreed to a three-year contract.

She makes more than $109,000 right now as assistant superintendent and current superintendent Norm Glismann makes $120,000.

Tecumseh has about 3,000 students enrolled, according to the Ohio Department of Education. The district’s five-year forecast says its annual budget is more than $28 million.

Norm Glismann, the current superintendent, said in November that he intends to retire at the end of the school year. He told the Springfield News-Sun he plans to retire because he’s ready to move on from a long career in education.

Crew served as interim superintendent after former Tecumseh Superintendent Brad Martin was put on leave and eventually fired. Martin pleaded guilty to theft in office, forgery and tampering with records during his time at Tecumseh.

He admitted to spending more than 400 hours either at or driving to and from casinos while he was supposed to be at work and taking upwards of $50,000 from the district.

Crew applied for the job in 2015 after Martin was fired and the board selected Glismann.

She has been an asset to the district since she joined, Tecumseh School Board President Peter Scarff said in a statement.

“Over the past several years, she has worked diligently to provide opportunity and leadership to our young people,” he said. “This is the right choice for our district and allows us to continue building on our solid foundation of serving our students. I look forward to the board’s partnership with Mrs. Crew in the new school year.”

Tecumseh scored several Ds and Fs on its latest report card. The district needs to continue to improve, Crew said.

“We have many exciting initiatives in varying stages of development at the district,” she said. “It will be rewarding to collaborate as a team with our internal and external stakeholders to provide the best possible school district for our students.”
