Background/Overview:

Ken Steele was born in Richmond, Ind. He married Judy Hack in 1974. Their family includes one son Kenny, a U.S. Army Seargent, his wife Renee, and three granddaughters.

Ken and Judy are educators who taught music in Springfield schools. For the past six years, he’s taught Career-Based Intervention (CBI) at Springfield Clark Career Technology Center (SCCTC) (a.k.a., CTC).

In the early 2000s, Ken noticed there were no quality coffeehouses in Springfield, so he began researching the coffee industry. While studying, he discovered “Crimson Cup,” a Columbus, Ohio roaster, supplied the best product. He partnered with them. Their company works with bean farmers around the world to provide its customers the finest coffee.

By August 2004, Ken was very ready to open his specialty coffeehouse and tea shop he titled, “Coffee Expressions.” It’s eight Baristas, including longtime manager Misty Turner and 13-year veteran Kathy Spurgin ensure, “You consistently get the best quality products, service, and atmosphere in one stop!”

In 2016, the Springfield Chamber of Commerce sponsored the “Springfield’s Best of the Best” competition, and Coffee Expressions was selected as “Springfield’s Best Coffeehouse.”
