Christmas tree disposal marks the end of another holiday season.

According to the National Christmas Tree Association, trees shouldn’t be thrown away in the trash, in an effort to keep them out of the landfill. Instead, trees can easily reusable or recycled for mulch and other purposes.

Clark and Champaign County residents have a couple of different options for disposing of their trees.

In Clark County, small trees can be brought to the yard waste bins at the Clark County Recycling Center located at 1620 W. Main St. in Springfield, according to the county’s website.

The yard waste bins are serviced by Paygro, a South Charleston-based organics recycler. All small trees are accepted from residents for free.

C & S Tree Service, located at 2551 Dayton Rd. in Springfield, will also accept Christmas trees from residents, according to the county’s website. For more information on pricing and disposal, visit their website on cstreemulch.com.

In Urbana, the city will retrieve trees placed at the side of the road through January 2021, Debra Aksenczuk, operations coordinator with the City of Urbana said.

“No artificial trees are accepted, trees must be free of all ornaments, lights, etc.,” Aksenczuk said.

For more information on tree retrieval in Urbana, visit the city’s website at urbanaohio.com/streets.html.

The National Christmas Tree Association also reminds residents to never burn a Christmas tree in a fireplace or woodstove, for fear the tree could start a house fire.
