Here are the biggest employers in Champaign County and what they do for the area

Clark and Champaign Counties hit a 17-year low unemployment rate last month, according to a monthly report provided by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Champaign County’s unemployment rate fell to 3.3 percent in March, the lowest rate the county has seen since October 2000, according to information from the DJFS. Here is a list of Champaign County’s top employers, according to available data from the Dayton Development Coalition.

KTH Parts Industries Inc.

KTH, an auto parts manufacturing firm based in St. Paris, is the largest employer in Champaign County according to information from the DDC. The economic development agency lists the company’s workforce at 914. KTH is an auto parts maker for Honda that specializes in metal stamping and welding operations. Along with its manufacturing facility near St. Paris, KTH also invested more than $3.7 million to develop a research and development technical center in Plain City, Ohio in late 2015 as automakers faced higher fuel economy demands and crash test standards.

Rittal Corporation

The DDC ranks Rittal second on the list of largest employers with 600 employees. Rittal is based in Urbana and produces computer racks and enclosures for various industries, including the oil and gas markets.

Honeywell International Inc.

With about 500 employees, Honeywill came in third on the DDC’s list of largest employers. Honeywell has a long history in Urbana, and among other products makes lighting and assemblies for the aviation industry. Along with various careers on the manufacturing floor, the company also employs electrical, mechanical and optical engineers.

Russell T. Bundy Associates, Inc.

Bundy Baking Solutions ranked fourth on the DDC’s list with 325 employees. Bundy Baking Solutions is an Urbana firm that makes industrial and commercial baking pans and other products. According to its website, the company was founded in 1964 by Russell Bundy in Columbus and focused on the purchase and re-sale of bakery pans and equipment. The company later relocated to Urbana due to the need for additional space.

Orbis Corporation

Based in Urbana, Orbis manufactures plastic products. The manufacturing firm was listed as fifth on the DDC list with about 300 employees. The company makes a range of products, including plastic pallets and plastic reuseable packaging for the food and beverage and automotive industries.
