A Springfield street that was blocked off for a little more than an hour Friday evening has reopened, and SWAT forces and police cruisers have left the scene.

The section of West Columbia Street that was blocked off reopened about 6:20 p.m.

Earlier, several Springfield Police Division vehicles were seen surrounding a house in the 900 block of West Columbia, near a local carwash.

Officers had cast a light on the door of the house.

SWAT vehicles arrived on the scene about 5:15 p.m.

An announcement broadcast instructed people inside to come out with their hands up.

One person came out of the residence with hands up, walked toward the SWAT vehicle and was taken from the scene shortly after that.

A person was transported from the scene by emergency squad later.

Traffic was redirected to Main Street and motorists were told to avoid the area during the incident, police said.

Police expect to release more information later tonight.
