The superintendent of Greenon Local Schools said the district is “pleased” with the results of the data for the state’s most recent school report card.

State school report cards were released two weeks ago, and districts did not receive a letter grade but instead only got numerical data.

The report cards only contain a handful of normal data points as the spring 2020 state tests in English, math, science and social studies were canceled after mid-March coronavirus-related school closures.

“With not much data collected, we are pleased with the results but feel there is still a need for improvement,” said Superintendent Darrin Knapke. “Greenon plans to review its strategic plan this year and collaborate with the District Leadership Team and Building Leadership Teams to assess our needs and develop a new strategic plan next year.”

Greenon scored a four-year graduation rate of 91%, a slight increase from last year’s 89.9%, and a five-year graduation rate of 92.9%, according to state report card data.

The state report card’s four-year graduation rate data applies to students in the class of 2019 who entered ninth grade in the fall of 2015 and graduated by the summer of 2019. The five-year graduation rate data applies to students in the class of 2018 who entered the ninth grade in the fall of 2014 and graduated by the summer of 2019.

When it comes to the prepared for success component, which is how well-prepared students are for future opportunities, Greenon scored a 46.4%. This includes ACT and SAT participation, dual enrollment credit and honors diploma.

“Both the graduation rate and prepared for success percentage improved,” Knapke said. “We are pleased to see our percentage on the graduation rate and prepared for success components - the only components with data collected - increase.”

According to state report card data, 94 students earned a remediation free score on all parts of the ACT or SAT, earned an honors diploma, and/or earned an industry-recognized credential.

This includes that 91.6% of students took the ACT, 25.7% of students earned a remediation free score, 30.5% received an honors diploma, 3.2% received industry-recognized credential and 40.2% participated in earning three or more dual enrollment college credits.

According to state report card data, 66.2% of the 2017 graduating class entered college within two years and 31.4% of the 2013 graduating class graduated from college within six years of leaving high school.
