The traditional ceremony was canceled due to the health and safety status of the coronavirus.
“We were all hopeful that the pandemic would stabilize and we could hold the traditional ceremony and so delayed a decision as long as possible,” district officials said. “Discussions with the Champaign County Health District have made it evident that this traditional ceremony would not be a safe plan to implement for students, their families and others who would attend.”
Although a traditional ceremony is not possible, the district was still able to hold individual graduations for seniors to receive their diplomas, which was made into a virtual graduation ceremony.
“We all share in the disappointment of not being able to hold a traditional ceremony. However, this does not take away from the accomplishments of the class of 2020, and we are very proud of each member,” they said.
