The Global Impact STEM Academy in Springfield held a drive-thru open house Wednesday night for new students.

“It’s kind of just what we’re doing in place of an open house. We’re doing it through a drive-thru,” said Founding Director Josh Jennings. “It’s an opportunity for all new seventh graders to our school and all new students period to come and pick up their school supplies, their school-issued technology.”

Along with picking up their supplies, teachers were also there to greet the students in their vehicles from a safe distance.

“Tonight’s for them (seventh graders) and anybody that’s new to the school,” Jennings said Wednesday night.

One parent of a seventh-grader said her family is very excited for their son to start school.

“We are so very excited. He just got the call a couple of weeks ago. He was on the waiting list as an alternate, so we’re so very pumped,” said Jennifer Brown. “Hopefully at some point, we’ll go back to traditional learning but even working from home, it’ll be a new experience for him from what he had in the past.”

Jennifer’s son, Carter, also said he was very excited to start school at GISA.

“Oh yes, I am quite excited. I have been wanting to go here since I was in the fourth grade,” he said. “I feel like I’m in kindergarten again going to a different school. It’s very exciting for all of us.”
