The German Township Board of Trustee’s has appointed a new member to fill longtime Trustee Charles Metzger’s seat.

Metzger died earlier this year.

The selection committee interviewed nine applicants, according to a statement from the board, and William Wolfarth was selected.

“The former 178th Wing Vice Commander is a retired military veteran of 39 years with multiple Middle Eastern deployments,” the statement said. “In addiiton to serving as President of the German Township Zoning Appeals Board, he currently serves on the Board of Directors for OIC of Clark County and Tecumseh Council of Boy Scouts America.”

Wolfarth and his wife are 28-year residents of German Twp. and have two sons, both of whom attended Northwestern High School, according to the statement.

Metzger, who served as trustee for 27 years, during which he served as the board’s president multiple times. He died on Jan. 9 at SOIN Medical Center, according to his obituary.

“Charlie was highly respected by his fellow elected officials and employees of German Township. Charlie was a friend, co-worker and leader that will be missed by the German Township community,” a statement from the board after his passing said.

German Twp. trustee meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month at the township offices located at 3940 Lawrenceville Dr. in Springfield.
