15-year-old riding bike killed after car crash

A 15-year-old boy died after being struck by a car on state Route 55 east of state Route 235 at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

After investigation, OSP determined that a 2006 Cadillac CTS, driven by Austyn Schneider, 19, of Urbana was traveling westbound on Route 55, while Lucas Whitt, 15, of Urbana, was riding a bicycle westbound in the eastbound lane.

The Cadillac attempted to pass another vehicle by crossing into the eastbound lane and struck the bicycle from behind.

Whitt was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital, where he died of his injuries.

There were no other injuries in the incident.

The crash remains under investigation.

Christianburg Fire and EMS responded to the scene and assisted OSP.
