Warren’s legal troubles began after a business owner accused him of saying that he would shoot up a Tremont Village Council Meeting after expressing frustrations about downtown parking changes, according to an affidavit filed in the case.
Tremont City Police began their investigation Wednesday at around 1:30 p.m. when they were contacted by Dewitt Guns and Ammo that a threat was made.
“(An officer) was advised that on Aug. 19 at 5:30 p.m. the suspect identified as Bruce E. Warren came into (the business) and questioned (the owner) about why the mayor was painting lines on the village streets,” an affidavit says. “(The owner) explained to the suspect that it was for parking enforcement for the village. The suspect appeared unhappy about the answer that was given to him and stated he would park his truck on the corner making it hard for motorists to pull onto East Main Street due to not being able to clearly see oncoming westbound traffic.”
The business owner then said Warren questioned him about trees getting cut down, the affidavit says.
“(The business owner) gave him an explanation for that situation also, and again the suspect was unhappy with the explanation given to him and he stated to (the owner) that he would just shoot up the council at the next council meeting.”
The business owner told him to not come into his place of business and make threats, the affidavit says, and gave him an opportunity to recant the claim. Warren allegedly refused to do so.
Warren was not listed as an inmate in Clark County Jail Tuesday.
