Teen charged in Bellfontaine school threat

A Bellfontaine High School student was arrested Thursday night and alleged to have made threats against the high school.

The Bellfontaine Police Department announced on their Facebook page they arrested a 16-year-old and said that the community is safe.

The student is alleged to have uploaded a video onto Facebook Thursday threatening to harm other students and caused many to fear he was going to attack the school.

“The investigation is ongoing, but there is nothing to suggest that anyone is in any danger,” The police Facebook post stated. “The police department is fully aware of the impact of things like this through social media. However; we are confident that the situation is fully being investigated to ensure the safety of everyone.”

The facebook post features the teen holding what appeared to be a firearm. The police department in the post said that the gun was fake.

The police said working with the Logan County Prosecutor’s office, the male teenager was charged with inducing panic.

The school district on their Facebook page announced that it sent out a text message to parents and community members letting them know about the threat Thursday night.

“Just over an hour ago I was informed by the Bellefontaine Police Deparmtnet of a threat by a high school student,” Superintendent Brad Hall wrote. “Due to police involvement, there is no longer a threat at this time.”
