3-year-old boy killed in Springfield shooting identified

The 3-year-old boy who was killed in a shooting in Springfield on Tuesday has been identified.

Kain Thompson was shot and killed in the 1800 block of Clay Street, according to a Springfield Police Division report.

When officers arrived, the child already was being treated in the back of a Springfield Fire Division medic unit.

“The victim was transported to (Springfield Regional Medical Center) where it was determined that he was deceased from an apparent gunshot wound,” the report said.

No one has been charged in the shooting. However, the investigation into the shooting is still ongoing, the report said.

Police at the scene on Tuesday said they were treating the case as “suspicious.”
