Springfield woman shot in the head identified, recovering

A Springfield woman is recovering from being shot in the head Wednesday afternoon.

Victoryia Printz, 21, was shot in the right temple about 2:50 p.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of Crossgate Court in an “unknown manner by an unknown male with an unknown weapon,” according to a Springfield Police Division report.

Her injury is serious, according to a police report. But her injuries weren’t believed to life-threatening, said Sgt. Joe Tedeschi of the Springfield Police Division said at the scene of the shooting.

Printz was transported to the Springfield Regional Medical Center, the police report says.

“She was shot in the head but it doesn’t appear it was any kind of a penetrating wound,” Tedeschi said. “She was very fortunate.”

It appears only one shot was fired, he said.

It’s not clear how many people were inside the apartment where the shooting occurred or if the shooting was accidental. The shooting happened in the kitchen area of the apartment.

The victim’s boyfriend was on scene but “it was unclear at the time of report his involvement,” in the incident, according to the police report.

Springfield Police Division investigators couldn’t be reached for comment or updates on Thursday morning.
