A Springfield woman called police on Christmas Day to report her holiday decorations were stolen and destroyed overnight on Christmas Eve.

The woman called police at 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday to report, “criminal damaging to two of her outdoor Christmas decorations,” according to a Springfield Police Division report.

“(Victim) advised that at some point overnight, an unknown suspect took a 15’ inflatable, green, Christmas train decoration from her front yard where it had been inflated and illuminated for her children for the holiday,” the report said.

The woman’s, “giant, inflatable Minnie Mouse gingerbread house,” was also slashed, the report said. According to the report, the damage to the inflatable gingerbread house is valued at about $50. The incident reportedly occurred in the 300 block of W. Grand Ave.

Springfield Police have no leads on the Grinch who stole the woman’s Christmas cheer, the report said.

German Twp. Police announced earlier in the week that their township was having similar issues involving Christmas decor.

German Twp. Police Chief Michael Stitzel said his department had received about 10 reports of stolen Christmas decorations, mainly expensive decorations like the inflatable gingerbread house.

Stitzel said the thefts have been, “pretty spread out,” with no one neighborhood as a target. He said thieves have been stealing from homes between midnight and 5 a.m.

It’s unclear if the recent Springfield decoration theft is connected to the German Twp. thefts.

German Twp. Police are currently still investigating the incidents and have no suspects.
