A Springfield woman was officially charged with murder Friday morning.

Ulonda Degahson, 39, was charged with murder in Clark County Municipal Court. Degahson appeared in court on Friday morning for an arraignment.

Degahson stood in front of sitting judge James Griffin and didn’t say anything other than pleading not guilty and saying that she needed a public attorney.

Griffin set her bond at $750,000.

Degahson’s legal troubles began after she was arrested following a shooting at the 100 block of Bassett Drive on Wednesday morning.

Dewand Moore was shot multiple times and later died from his injuries at the hospital, according to Springfield police. An affidavit in the case said police responded to a home on Bassett and found the man laying on the ground severely injured.

Through an investigation, police discovered Degahson was a suspect.

“Officers located Ulonda Degashon and secured the scene,” the affidavit said. “Degahson was taken to the Springfield Police Division. During an interview with detectives Dan DeWine and Sandy Fent, Degahson admitted to shooting Moore multiple times. Subsequent investigation determined that Degahson purposefully shot Moore.”

Springfield Police Lt. Lou Turner said through the investigation, police determined Degahson and Moore were acquaintances. It appears before shots were fired, however, they got into an argument outside.

Turner said the verbal spat turned into a physical altercation. It’s not clear what the argument between the two was about.

Degahson then went inside the house grabbed a gun and shot Moore multiple times, police said. A CareFlight helicopter was requested for Moore, but he later died at Springfield Regional Medical Center.

Degahson was still in custody at the Clark County Jail Friday.
