DETAILS: Springfield man who killed father, brother with ax to get out
Springfield police officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Sunset Avenue about 8 p.m. March 11 on a report of a man and woman fighting.
Ovando allegedly was intoxicated and fighting with a man, police say in court records, swearing and yelling racial slurs at him.
Officers attempted to move her into another room to calm the situation, according to the court records, and Ovando allegedly grabbed the police officer by the neck and choked him.

Another officer “tried to pry her hand off of his neck but had no luck,” the affidavit says. The officer being choked then “administered jabs to her face until she let go and fell to the ground,” the report says.
The police officer had scratches and redness to the right side of his neck.
The fourth degree felony charge carries a possible sentence of up to 18 months in jail and/or a $5,000 fine.
