Springfield teen reports to police being followed

A teen girl was reportedly motioned to get into an unknown vehicle on Wednesday evening while she was walking to the store.

Springfield police responded around 10:30 p.m. to East College Street “in reference to an attemtped abduction,” according to a police report.

When officers arrived, the 13-year-old’s mother told police that she was at work when the incident happened.

“She was notified by her daughter, who is 13 years of age, that the unknown suspect stopped his car and tried to get her to get in his car,” the report says.

The teen said she left her house to go to Speedway, 1147 N. Limestone St., between 6:10 p.m. and 7 p.m.

“She said as she passed the area of the Limestone and Spring Street split, she noticed the suspect car, a four-door silver possible Toyota Camry, slow down and the white male driver was staring at her,” the report says.

The teen told police when she continued to Speedway, went inside and got her items, then began walking back home.

“She said when she got to the intersection of Limestone and Chestnut, the same suspect car from before was pulling over to the curb at a driveway. The suspect began to motion to her to get into the car,” the report says. “She said she just took off running from the area behind some businesses to get away from the suspect.”

According to the report, the teen described the suspect as a man in his 40s with pale skin who was wearing a black beanie and black t-shirt.

No other suspect information was available and no arrests have been made.

Springfield police continue their investigation into this incident.
