Springfield police began their investigation when they were called to Wine Works on Commerce Drive regarding a robbery, a police affidavit says. There they spoke with a store clerk who said a man, later identified as Nared, had come back to the store after being thrown out for an alleged theft earlier in the afternoon. Nared was wearing different clothing, the affidavit says, but the store clerk recognized him.
“No sooner did (the store clerk) leave the back area to make sure the suspect did not steal anything that the suspect grabbed a half gallon and a fifth of Paul Masson brandy, valued at $37.68 total, and fled the store passing all points of sale.

The store clerk confronted him in the parking lot, the affidavit says.
“The man spun around, smashing one of the bottles into his face,” the affidavit says. “(The clerk) fell backward, and the suspect got back into the vehicle and left.”
The employee had numerous cuts and abrasions form the altercation, the affidavit says.

Using video footage of the incident, officers were able to identify Nared as the suspect, the affidavit says. He is due in court later this month for a preliminary hearing, online court records indicate.
