DETAILS: Springfield High School student arrested for social media threats
The boy will be charged with bringing a weapon onto school property and was taken to juvenile detention.

UPDATE @ 2:45 p.m.: A juvenile is in custody after an incident at Kenwood Elementary School, according to a Springfield City District statement.
“At Springfield City School District, student and staff safety is our number one priority. Anyone involved in breaching that safety will face serious disciplinary actions and additional consequences to the maximum extent of the law,” Superintendent Bob Hill says in the statement.
The statement doesn’t mention if a weapon was brought to school. But a letter sent to parents and given to the Springfield News-Sun says a weapon was found.
UPDATE @ 1:45 p.m.: A weapon was found at Kenwood Elementary School before the start of class today, according to a letter to parents from the principal of Kenwood Elementary School.
Kenwood Principal Ally Thurman said in a letter given to the the Springfield News-Sun that staff members reacted quickly to the weapon. The type of weapon wasn’t revealed in the letter.

“Due to the seriousness of this particular incident, I felt that it was important to communicate with you at a high level,” Thurman says. “Specifically, a young student was found to have brought a weapon to school today.”
Springfield City Schools haven’t responded to a request for comment about the letter to parents but said they will be releasing a statement shortly.
Law enforcement was immediately notified, Thurman says in the letter, and the situation was handled quickly.

“The student will face discipline in accordance with our student code of conduct,” she says.
The staff worked quickly and responded to ensure the safety of students, the letter says.
“As you are aware, the safety and security of our students will always be our top priority,” Thurman says.
FIRST POST: The Springfield Police Division responded to Kenwood Elementary School today but the reason hasn't been released.
Springfield Police Division Lt. Lloyd Alexander confirmed police went to the school but said it’s still under investigation.
Springfield schools spokeswoman Cherie Moore said there was an incident at Kenwood Elementary School today but that it was a police matter right now. Students are safe, she said, and the school is in session.
She hasn’t responded to additional questions.
Springfield City School District Superintendent Bob Hill wasn’t immediately available for comment Thursday morning.
A parent posted on social media that a one-call to parents said a weapon was found in the school. The Springfield News-Sun has not confirmed that information.
