Springfield police investigate shots fired, gun theft incidents

Springfield police are investigating two weekend gun incidents.

Officers responded around 10 a.m. Friday to the 800 block of South Lowry Street on a shots fired report.

“(The victim) stated that he was in his living room of his home and was looking out the window when he began hearing gun shots,” according to a police report. “(The victim) then got down behind a cover until the shots stopped, then looked out the window again and observed a small black car driving northbound on South Lowry Street.”

Police found two spent casings near the house and two spent rounds inside the home.

On Saturday, officers responded around 5:30 p.m. to the 500 block of Northern Avenue in reference to a gun theft.

“(The victim) stated that he noticed his “Stag” Model 3 AR-15 with a fully loaded 30 round magazine and a round in the chamber was missing,” according to a police report. “(The victim) went and checked where he keeps his Springfield Armory XDM .45 caliber pistol and noticed it was missing as well. He stated the pistol had a fully loaded 13 round magazine with a round in the chamber.”

No suspect information was available for either incident, and Springfield police continue their investigations.
