Springfield police investigate robbery where handgun was reported taken

Springfield police are investigating a report that a handgun was stolen during a robbery.

Police were called last week to the area of North Murray Street and Stanton Avenue in reference to a robbery, according to a police report recently filed by the division.

“Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim (who) stated he was open carrying and walking with a friend in the area when they were approached from behind…” the report says.

The man said the two were robbed at around 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 12.

“(The victim) stated that the (suspect) produced a handgun and demanded his weapon,” the report says. “(The victim) stated he gave the unknown suspect his black Taurus PT-111 9 MM. The suspect then fled on foot in an unknown direction of travel.”

The handgun is listed at a reported value of $300, according to the report. The suspect was reportedly wearing a white sleeveless shirt, a raider’s ball cap and dark-colored shorts.

“(The victim) was unable to provide any additional information regarding his firearm,” the report says. “No known suspect at this time.”
