When police arrived, the victim told them that sometime throughout the day, “someone entered his house home and removed a Ruger rifle,” the report says.

The victim told officers his rifle was upstairs in a gun case, but that he found the case in his basement with the rifle missing.
“(The victim) stated that when he arrived home, his back west facing door was unlocked. There were no signs of forced entry,” the report says.
Officers were later dispatched around 8:45 p.m. on Friday to the 300 block of N. Light St. in reference to a theft, according to a Springfield police report.
The victim told police he had been out of town and “returned to discover that the items were missing from his residence,” according to the report.

A .40 caliber Smith & Wesson and a Ruger rifle were stolen, the report says.
“(The victim) advised that there was no forced entry,” the report says. “He is not sure if someone has a key to the backdoor,” but workers for his business do have access to the basement, according to the report.
No other suspect information was available for either incident, and Springfield police continue their investigations into these thefts.
