Zachary T. Merriman, 18, and Mark A. Edwards, 18, were both charged with breaking and entering and possession of criminal tools. They both plead not guilty at the Clark County Municipal Court on Monday, according to court records.
Springfield Police Division officers responded to a security alarm activation at about 7:25 p.m. Sunday evening at the school at 1500 Tibbetts Ave. Officers saw a man wearing a tan shirt inside the building and later discovered the same person, Merriman, on the roof holding a 12-pack of juice boxes, the report says. Both suspects then jumped off the roof and were arrested.

The pair told police they entered the school through a door left open on the roof. Officers also found a value box of fruit snacks on the roof, which Edwards later admitted to taking from the building, the report says.
Both were wearing gloves and Edwards was wearing a mask, which they admitted to using to conceal their identity, the report says. They were both placed in the Clark County Jail.
