Springfield man reports being robbed while walking on sidewalk

A Springfield man reported being robbed while walking near Municipal Stadium.

Springfield police responded to the 1100 block of Mitchell Boulevard where the victim said he was walking when a silver van pulled up beside him and made contact with him.

“(The occupants) asked him for a cigarette,” the report says. “He stated that he offered the individuals a cigarette. (the victim) advised that two people got out of the vehicle and yelled ‘grab his phone, wallet and everything else.’”

The suspects hit him once in the face, the report says, and then took his belongings.

“(The victim) advised that the vehicle fled the scene eastbound on Mitchell Boulevard,” the report says. “(The victim) stated that he as not injured.”

The suspects allegedly took his wallet and a backpack which contained money, credit cards and identification, the report says.

There were no charges filed due to lack of suspect information, the report says.
