A Springfield man was shot multiple times including possibly in the back of his head, according to Springfield Police.

Police were called to Chestnut Avenue and North Murray Street on Saturday at around 9:30 p.m. in connection to the shooting. When they arrived they found a victim in his car, a police report says.

“(The victim) was sitting in the driver seat of his vehicle,” the report says. “The vehicle was a 1998 Taupe GMC Jimmy… (The victim) had several gunshot wounds to his legs and a laceration/possible gunshot wound to the back of his head.”

The victim told police that an unknown man shot and pistol-whipped him at an unknown gas station, the report says.

“(The victim) was transported by medics to Springfield Regional Medical Center,” the report says. “He was then taken by a mobile intensive care unit to Miami Valley Hospital.”

A spokeswoman for the hospital on Monday said the victim was listed in “fair” condition.

Officers at the scene said they collected evidence including the victim’s clothing and property. They also said they took photos of his injuries at the hospital.

“No charges are being filed at this time pending further investigation,” the affidavit says.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Springfield police at 937-324-7680.
