A Springfield man is accused of stabbing his girlfriend at an apartment on Ludlow Avenue early Wednesday morning.

Miguel Martinez II, 53, was charged with felonious assault in relation to the incident. Judge Mel Kemmer entered a not guilty plea for him and set his bond at $25,000.

According to court documents, dispatchers got a frantic call from Martinez’s girlfriend around 2 a.m.

“He slit me! He slit me! He cut me with knife!,” she said in the recording.

Officers from the Springfield Police Division found the woman with deep cuts to her head and upper body and Martinez with a cut on his arm. Court documents state both of them were taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center, but the woman was then taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital.

After Martinez was released from the hospital, he told officers he and his girlfriend had been up all night arguing and drinking. He said he was in bed when the victim stabbed him in the right forearm.

He told officers it was then he grabbed a box cutter he kept under his pillow. Martinez said he tried to calm the woman down and must have cut her with the knife in the process, although he told officers he didn’t know how many times.

When Martinez appeared in court Wednesday, he had a large bandage on his forearm.

The condition of the victim is currently unknown.

Wednesday’s incident is not the first time Martinez has allegedly threatened someone with a box cutter.

In 2013, court documents show he was charged with aggravated menacing when he threatened a man at a Springfield drive-thru.

“Mr. Martinez unfolded the box cutter and held it up to (the victim) stating, ‘I’ll kill you!,” the affidavit states.

In 2017, Martinez was once again charged with aggravated menacing when he threatened a former roommate with a box cutter saying he was going to cut him and kill him for allegedly sleeping with his girlfriend at the time.

Martinez will remain in custody at the Clark County Jail until he can post bond in this latest case.
