A Springfield man is accused of firing a gun during a fight outside while many spectators were around.

Raymond Scott, 21, was charged in Clark County Municipal court with discharge of firearm on or near prohibited premises. He pleaded not guilty and his bond was set at $10,000.

Springfield police began their investigation when they were called Wednesday to the 2400 block of Lagonda Avenue in reference of a fight, according to an affidavit filed with the charges.

“While en route, dispatch advised all responding units that they were beginning to get several calls stating that two males were in the middle of the street fighting, and a male with red shorts and no shirt brandished a gun and started shooting,” the affidavit says. “Witnesses advised that there were several people outside in the road arguing and were all around when the male started shooting.”

No one was hurt in the shooting, the affidavit indicates.

Springfield police said in the affidavit that they were told by witnesses that the shooter, later identified as the suspect, had left the scene. Through their investigation, they found shell casings on Lagonda Avenue that were photographed.

A short time later, Springfield police were able to find and arrest Scott near the scene. Officers were also able to find a gun in the area that they believe was used during the incident.

After officers arrested Scott, he allegedly told them that he needed treatment.

“Mr. Scott told officers that while in the backseat of the cruiser, he ingested an unknown amount of drugs,” the affidavit says.

Medics transported Scott to Springfield Regional Medical Center for evaluation, according to the affidavit.

After being cleared by medical staff, he was arrested and booked into the Clark County Jail. He was still booked in jail on Friday, according to jail records.
