One of Springfield’s Dollar General stores was robbed on Christmas — but the thieves only stole packs of cigarettes.

Officers and a store employee arrived at the Dollar General, located at 1201 Sunset Ave. in Springfield, around 3 p.m. on Wednesday after the store’s alarm was triggered, according to a police report filed by Springfield Police Division.

“Officers cleared the business and did not locate any persons,” the report said. “Officers saw several individual packs of cigarettes in an aisle way from the front of the store.”

Officers then walked to the front of the store and saw, “where the cigarette glass case in the front was open and missing several packs of cigarettes,” the report said. It was unclear at the time of the report how many packs of cigarettes the thieves had stolen.

At the scene, officers located three different brand packs of cigarettes in the alley at the rear of the store, along with a small screwdriver, the report said.

“Officers also located a small blue and white Kobalt pry bar in the rear alley,” the report said.

On footage from the store’s surveillance camera officers were able to see two unknown suspects enter through the rear door of the store, the report said.

“A male and female enter the business and make their way to the front of the store and select what cigarettes to take,” the report said.

Footage of the incident shows the male suspect to be wearing a red and grey jacket with black pants and the female is described as wearing a black, blue and white flannel jacket and black pants the report said.

Both suspects fled before the police arrived.

According to the report, officers on the scene were able to lift fingerprints off the glass case and submitted them for further investigation. Officers have no further information about the suspects at this time.
