UPDATE: Second Springfield woman to die after being shot while pregnant is ‘tragic,’ chief says

Springfield police are encouraging the public to come forward with information that might help in the investigation of the shooting death of a pregnant woman, who was kept alive to deliver her baby before dying this week.

Police chief Lee Graf said at a news conference this afternoon that the department is investigating the case, although he declined to provide some details.

This is the second case in Springfield this year of a woman being shot while pregnant, delivering the baby and then dying.

“In a sense of unusual, I think more than anything it's tragic,” Graf said of the two cases. “... And also I would definitely say ... not connected, neither of these cases is connected to another.”

INITIAL REPORT, 7:55 A.M.

A Springfield woman who was shot in the head while pregnant in March died this week a few days after delivering the baby.

Lindzie Wilson, 25, was shot multiple times, including in the head, outside her home on 953 Oak St. on March 1, according to a Springfield police report. She was pregnant at the time of the shooting and was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, the report says.

“(She) had been on life support at Miami Valley Hospital due to her being pregnant in order to save the life of her unborn child,” the report says. “On April 21, the baby was delivered and subsequently the victim (Wilson) was taken off of life support at which time she (died) on April 24 at 11:23 a.m.”

An autopsy was performed by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, according to the report, and it was determined that she had died from trauma caused by being shot in the head. The case was ruled a homicide.

No arrests have been made in the case. Family and friends have taken to social media to ask for help finding the shooter.

Wilson is the second pregnant woman in Springfield to be shot in the head in the last two months. Lindsey Marsh was killed on April 5, and the father of her child, Travis Hypes, is charged with murder in Clark County Common Pleas Court.
