Police investigating burglary at Springfield tavern

Springfield Police are investigating a break-in at Whities Tavern in Springfield.

A neighboring witness told police that she entered the tavern at 1070 Warder St. on Friday, Dec. 28, to check after the alarm went off and noticed that the north office was ransacked and a cabinet was opened, the report reads.

Upon searching the business, police found a hole in the north side of the building, which they said the suspects used to enter the tavern , according to the report.

Officers also noted that another wall was pried open, but that the suspects did not enter through that wall, according to the report.

Police confirmed that suspects ransacked an office in the building and stole various items from the bar, according to the report.

The suspects left the establishment through the same hole in the exterior wall they used to enter, the report says. Police located three plastic liquor bottle pour sprouts in a Middle Street alley to the back of Whities Tavern, but did not find any bottles, according to the report.

Officers have not identified any suspects at this time, the report says.
