Police headlines: Investigation ongoing in fatal crash

No charges had been filed Wednesday as a result of the fatal crash that killed 5-year-old Lauren Drummond on West National Road Monday.

Investigators from the Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol were still conducting interviews and will meet with a representative from the Clark County Prosecutor’s office within 10 days, Lt. Matt Cleaveland said.

Drummond died at the Children’s Medical Center of Dayton Tuesday. She was riding in a Honda Odyssey when a Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV driven by Hannah Gough, 22, of Medway, rear-ended the minivan.

2 women pose as Walmart employees

Two females took money from Walmart at 200 S. Tuttle Road by posing as corporate employees Tuesday, a Springfield police report said.

The women, dressed in dark blue shirts and khakis and carrying clipboards, asked cashiers to override checks as cash on Walmart money cards. When a cashier became confused and called a manager, the suspects fled after completing four transactions.

A Sidney, Ohio, store reported that the suspects completed 15 transactions before fleeing days ago.

Police still seeking help finding sign

Springfield Police Division is asking for the public’s help in finding a one-of-a-kind sign stolen from a yard at 1634 Miracle Mile on June 16.

Harry Massie, 79, and his wife left to run errands when the 2- by 4-foot sign made by his son was taken, according to SPD. The sign reads “AKC German Shepherds” and has an image of a German Shepherd dog.

ARRESTS

• A Springfield man was arrested Tuesday night after he was accused of threatening a man with a sword.

According a Springfield Police Division report, officers found Brandon M. Hoskins, 30, no permanent address, was holding a sword above his head near several bystanders in a parking lot on the 1300 block of Delta Road.

Hoskins was ordered to put the weapon down and was arrested and charged with felonious assault, according to the report. Witnesses told officers Hoskins was involved in a dispute in the parking lot and had threatened another man with the sword.

• Charles E. Debord, 34, of 823 Shanee Park Place, was arrested and charged with domestic violence, assault, aggravated menacing and obstruction of official business after Springfield Police say he assaulted a woman he knows Tuesday night on the 1500 block of Mound Street. Debord is accused of grabbing a woman he knows around the neck and pushing her to the ground during a dispute. He is also accused of pulling the woman’s hair, and threatening to kill her with a knife, according to the report.

Chad J. Sowards, 37, of 2215 W. Jackson Road, was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence Monday night after Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputies say he grabbed a woman by the neck and threw her to the ground during an argument.

THEFTS

• Cash in the amount of $470 was reportedly taken from a disabled woman’s purse sometime between noon and 10 p.m. Monday, according to a Wednesday police report. The victim told police that two people picked her up at her house and took her to two local stores where she went in with a female suspect early Monday afternoon. A male suspect stayed in the car. She discovered the money missing later that evening and said it’s possible one of the suspects took the money.

• A hot water tank and assorted wire worth more than $400 was reported taken from a vacant home on the 400 block of East Euclid Avenue between noon Tuesday and 2 p.m. Wednesday.
