A Springfield woman has been indicted after allegedly walking out of Big Lots with a cart full of merchandise without paying for it.

Heather Shaw, 34, was indicted in Clark County Common Pleas Court this week on charges of theft and failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer. Shaw, who is currently at large, is facing additional charges from other crimes — and is on the Clark County Sheriff’s Office list of most wanted criminals.

She is considered armed and dangerous, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office website.

Shaw’s most recent crime allegedly occurred on March 12 at Big Lots on 205 E. Leffel Ln. in Springfield, according to an affidavit filed in the case.

“(Witness) stated that he was alerted by an off duty employee that a female was leaving the store with a shopping cart full of merchandise without paying for it,” the affidavit said.

The witness confronted the woman and told her to bring the items back inside, or he would call the police, the affidavit said.

“She told him, ‘they can’t do anything,’” the affidavit said.

Upon reviewing Big Lots’ security footage, detectives were able to make contact with the owner of the vehicle the woman was seen placing the stolen items into, the affidavit said.

“(Vehicle owner) stated that she was the one driving the vehicle at the time and she thought the items had been paid for,” the affidavit said. “She was then asked who the female was that was with her and she stated it was Heather Shaw.”
