Motorcyclist identified in Thursday night crash

A motorcyclist who was injured in a crash Thursday night, Aug. 13, has been identified as David W. Layne, 28, of Urbana, according to officials with Ohio Highway Patrol.

Layne was taken by medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton with serious injuries after he rear-ended a moving truck on Urbana Road Thursday, Aug. 13, according to Sgt. Terry Bush of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Information about Layne’s condition was not available Friday.

At about 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Layne, who was not wearing a helmet, rear-ended a Ford Ranger pick-up truck that was going about 55-60 mph on Urbana Road near the Navistar International plant, said Bush.

The motorcycle ended up in a nearby field.

Charges could be filed pending further investigation, officials said.

Although it is not state law, the highway patrol recommends that motorcyclists wear helmets and proper gear, said Bush.

Traffic was re-routed at the scene for nearly two hours.

Layne was described as alert and talking after the accident.
