A Bellefontaine mother now facing charges said she was protecting her children during a fight at a school bus stop on Wednesday morning.

Foxi Carter, 33, was charged with assault, disorderly conduct and trespassing for her role in the fight, Bellefontaine Police Chief Brandon Standley said.

Officers said several students got into a shoving match about 7 a.m. Wednesday at East Brown Avenue and North Madriver Street.

Two of Carter’s children were arrested on Wednesday evening and charged with assault. They were taken to the juvenile detention center.

Officers alleged Carter yelled at the school bus driver and struck a 17-year-old girl in the face. Carter denied striking the teen and said she was only trying to stop her children from fighting.

“I touched my children,” Carter said. “I grabbed my son, no one else. I grabbed my daughter. I never touched anyone.”

Carter said she escorted her children to the bus stop on Wednesday morning because they were involved in a fight on Tuesday evening with another student and parent.

She wanted to ask why the school bus driver, who she said witnessed the fight, hadn’t done anything to stop it.

“Enough is enough; I can’t take it no more,” she said.

Carter also said students had yelled racial slurs at her children while riding the bus.

Investigations into the fights are ongoing, Standley said, and others could be charged. Police are using video gathered at the scene to determine what happened, he said.

“Very likely there’s going to be some assault charges coming out of this investigation,” he said.

Carter appeared in Bellefontaine Municipal Court on Thursday morning and requested a lawyer. She didn’t enter a plea and will be arraigned again next week.
