Chaney was arrested Tuesday. He is due Jan. 22 in municipal court.

Springfield police began their investigation into rape allegations back in 2014 when a woman reported to them that a man had held her down while another raped her. The woman said the attack took place in a vehicle on Lower Valley Pike.

“After the male was done sexually assaulting her, the victim was pushed out the vehicle,” the affidavit says. “The victim then ran towards a trailer park and was able to call for help.”

The woman was taken to Grandview Medical Center where evidence was collected, the affidavit says, as well as evidence at the scene.

“On 10/31/14, I received information that a DNA match was obtained from evidence submitted,” the affidavit says. “On 11/11/2014, I received written confirmation from BCI that a DNA sample … matched a subject named Randy Chaney.”

With this evidence, police were able to create a photo lineup for the victim to see if she could identify her attacker, the affidavit says.

“(The woman) immediately identified her attacker and began to circle his picture in anger,” the affidavit says.

After speaking with prosecutors, law enforcement decided to seek a warrant for Chaney’s arrest.
