Springfield police and the U.S. Marshals made an arrest in connection to a bar shooting that resulted in the death of a man nearly a year ago.

Gabriel Crossley, 31, was arrested Thursday morning in connection to a 2018 killing that took place at the Wagon Wheel bar in Springfield, according to Clark County Prosecutor Dan Driscoll.

It appears Crossley was indicted secretly prior to his arrest. It is unclear if he’s been arraigned in Clark County Common Pleas Court.

Jahream Beard, 35, of Springfield was identified as the man shot outside the bar on S. Burnett Road in the morning of June 17.

Springfield police responded at around 2:40 a.m.to the bar at 1005 South Burnett Road due to multiple people being shot. When they arrived, Beard was laying o in the parking lot not moving, according to the report.

A licensed practical nurse was giving Beard CPR when police arrived, the report says.

The report says when medic units arrived they were unable to find a pulse for Beard. Along with Beard, two others were shot according to police reports. Neither of those men suffered life-threatening injuries, the reports say. They nor witnesses could give police a good description of the suspect(s), the report says.

“I also spoke with the reporting person who stated she saw an unknown vehicle speed off out of the parking lot and head southbound on South Burnett Road but could not provide any other details,” the report says.

A man who was shot told police, according to a police report, that he was leaving the bar when he noticed a fight going on.

“He was outside leaving the bar when he saw a large group of females arguing and getting physical with each other,” the report says. “He stated he then heard multiple gunshots; he then grabbed his mother and sister,” according to the report. The man said he ran to a vehicle and while running felt a hot pain.

He asked his family to take him to the hospital, according to the report.

“He stated he did not see who was shooting or where the shots were coming from,” the report says.

In the report for the other victim, the man told police he also didn’t see too much before being shot.

“He stated they were walking to his car when he heard multiple gunshots from the parking lot,” the report says. He told police he was also running to his car when he was shot, the report says.

Driscoll said an arrest was made because of the hard work of local police. He said Crossley is the only suspect in the case.

“It’s always good to have someone in custody,” Driscoll said.
