Man accused of raping child under the age of 13 in Clark County

A man is accused of raping a child under the age of 13 in Clark County, according to an indictment filed in Clark County Common Pleas Court.

Douglas Lovelock, 62, was indicted on two counts of rape and two counts of gross sexual imposition, according to the Clark County Prosecutor’s office.

An affidavit was not available in the case.

The two gross sexual imposition counts say that the alleged crimes took place against a child under 13, according to the indictment document.

Clark County Assistant Prosecutor Aaron Heskett said the victim was known to Lovelock and was elementary school aged. He declined further comment until after the trial saying he wanted to maintain the integrity of the case.

An indictment sheet describing one count says in June 2018, Lovelock allegedly committed rape.

“Douglas Lovelock did engage in sexual conduct with the victim, and the said victim being less than 13-years-of-age, whether or not the offender knows the age of the other person,” the indictment says.

The second count is described as allegedly taking place between April 6, 2016, and June 28, 2018, according to the indictment. Similar language is used to describe that charge. .

“Douglas Lovelock did have sexual contact with another, when the other person was less than 13 years of age, whether or not he knew the age of the other person,” the indictment says.

The indictment indicates the gross sexual imposition counts took place between April 8, 2016 to June 28, 2018.

Lovelock was not in Clark County jail Wednesday. A next court date was not set in the case as of Wednesday.
