A former Ohio House representative who represented Springfield has been charged with OVI, according to court documents.

Ross McGregor, 53, was charged in Clark County Municipal Court on May 13 with OVI and no taillights. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and a next court date has not been set in the case.

A phone message left for McGregor was not returned. McGregor served as the city’s representative from 2005 to 2014.

Springfield police began their investigation Friday at around 10 p.m. when an officer saw a vehicle traveling without taillights on N. Fountain Avenue near W. Columbia Street, an affidavit filed with the charge says.

The affidavit says McGregor was driving the car.

“While speaking to Mr. McGregor, I could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle. I also noticed that Mr. McGregor’s eyes were glossy,” according to the affidavit.

McGregor told the officer he had a glass of wine about an hour before, the affidavit says.

He was asked to do field sobriety tests and was arrested after they were completed, according to the affidavit.

If convicted, McGregor’s license could be suspended and he’d have to pay a fine, according to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles website.
