The Clark County Sheriff’s Office has seen an influx in reports from residents regarding “grandparents scams.”

According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, the scam usually begins with a grandparent receiving a call where the grandchild is in trouble or needs money.

“The caller may claim that the grandchild was in a car accident, has been caught with drugs, or put in jail,” the statement said. “The caller requests that money be sent immediately to get the problem solved.”

The sheriff’s office said this scam is common and “has been going around for years.”
