Springfield City School District’s varsity boy’s basketball coach has been arrested and charged with domestic violence.
A warrant for Isaiah Carson, 34, of Springfield, was issued on Saturday, Jan.19. According to online court records, Carson was booked into the Clark County Jail on Tuesday morning.
Carson pleaded not guilty to one count of domestic violence. He was given a $2,500 bond and a no-contact order with the victim.
According to an affidavit filed in the case, the Springfield Police Division was dispatched to the 1000 block of Ryan Circle at around 7 a.m. on Saturday (Jan. 19) on a report of a “domestic dispute.”
“(Victim) advised she arrived home from an evening out with friends and went to sleep in her son’s room,” the affidavit said. “She states she was awakened (Saturday morning) around 7 a.m. by Mr. Carson ripping her blanket off of her and choking her.”

The victim said Carson then threw her from the bed, causing her to hit her head on a nearby nightstand causing injury, the affidavit said.
“(Victim) advised she may have lost consciousness around that time. She advised she noticed she was bleeding somewhat heavily,” the affidavit said. “(Victim) had several marks and scrapes about her neck and right eye. She complained of pain all over her body.”
Officers at the scene were unable to make contact with Carson, the affidavit said, at which time a warrant was issued for his arrest.
By Tuesday afternoon, Carson was not listed as an inmate in the Clark County Jail.
2. Springfield robbery suspect found hiding in school dumpster
David Newport, 32, was arraigned in Clark County Municipal Court earlier this week on an aggravated robbery charge in connection with the hold-up at the bank on Saturday.
A not guilty plea was entered for him and his bond was set at $50,000.
Springfield Police said they were looking at Newport as a possible suspect in the Jan. 6 robbery at the bank prior to the latest heist, according to the affidavit, but he had only been charged with the most recent robbery as of Tuesday evening.

Court documents filed in the case say that Newport went into the bank and jumped up on the counter.
“He fell as he came over, at which time he had a gun in one hand and a black bag in the other hand. He then began to demand money.” an affidavit reads.
A few hours after the robbery, officers and Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputies found the car they say Newport was driving at an apartment complex on Delta Road and tried to stop him — but he ran off.
While law enforcement officers searched for him, others searched the car and found a handgun and a red bag with a mask in it.
About six hours after the robbery, officers got information that Newport was hiding in a dumpster at Kenwood Elementary School on Nagley Street — where he was found and taken into custody.
Court documents say it “appeared he was high and he admitted to using heroin.”
Police say he also has warrants out of Champaign County.
Newport was still listed as an inmate in the Clark County Jail as of Saturday.
3. Springfield police investigate shots fired, gun theft incidents
Springfield police are investigating two gun incidents.
Officers responded around 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, to the 800 block of South Lowry Street on a shots fired report.
“(The victim) stated that he was in his living room of his home and was looking out the window when he began hearing gun shots,” according to a police report. “(The victim) then got down behind a cover until the shots stopped, then looked out the window again and observed a small black car driving northbound on South Lowry Street.”
Police found two spent casings near the house and two spent rounds inside the home.

On Saturday, Jan. 19, officers responded around 5:30 p.m. to the 500 block of Northern Avenue in reference to a gun theft.
“(The victim) stated that he noticed his “Stag” Model 3 AR-15 with a fully loaded 30 round magazine and a round in the chamber was missing,” according to a police report. “(The victim) went and checked where he keeps his Springfield Armory XDM .45 caliber pistol and noticed it was missing as well. He stated the pistol had a fully loaded 13 round magazine with a round in the chamber.”
No suspect information was available for either incident, and Springfield police continue their investigations.
