The gunshot triggered an emergency alert sent to Urbana University students and staff, urging them to seek shelter.

Urbana University freshman Bailey Draughn said she was taking a nap when she woke up to calls and texts from her roommates.

“Everyone was saying to stay down and stay away from all windows because there was an active shooter on campus is what we were told,” she said. “You don’t know bad things can happen until they actually happen where you are.”

No one was hurt, but police found fragments of the fired slug in the dorm room, according to Urbana police.

Urbana police said they are continuing its investigation into the incident, and more criminal charges could be coming.
