Bank robbery suspect facing federal charges

CINCINNATI — A 45-year-old man suspected of robbing a bank in Springfield and one in Dayton hours later last week has been charged in a federal complaint, the FBI said Wednesday afternoon.

Delmain Fannin, who has listed addresses in New Carlisle and in Fairborn, has been charged with two counts of bank robbery, said Edward J. Hanko, special agent in charge of the Cincinnati Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Carter M. Stewart, U.S. attorney, Southern District of Ohio.

Each count carries a maximum punishment of 20 years imprisonment, Hanko and Stewart said.

The complaint alleges that on March 30, Fannin knowingly robbed the PNC Bank, 1850 S. Limestone St. in Springfield, of an undisclosed amount of cash. The complaint also alleges that on the same day, Fannin robbed the Fifth Third Bank at 3830 Linden Ave. in Dayton.

He was arrested Monday afternoon by Dayton police after law enforcement officers observed him driving a Ford SUV from the area of his Fairborn residence, Hanko said. Fannin allegedly refused to comply with the officer’s request to stop his vehicle. Following a chase involving multiple law enforcement agencies, Fannin crashed on U.S. 35 and was taken into custody.

Springfield and Dayton police, as well as the police departments in Fairborn, Beavercreek and Riverside assisted in the apprehension, Hanko said.

On Wednesday afternoon, Fannin remained in the Montgomery County Jail pending the filing of a bank robbery charge. He has a lengthy criminal history with convictions in Montgomery, Greene and Clark counties dating back to 1996. His criminal convictions include disorderly conduct, domestic violence, theft, child endangering and two federal weapons charges for having a weapon as a felon.
