750 books stolen from Springfield book store

Springfield police are investigating a burglary where more than 750 books were taken, according to a police report.

Authorities were called to Bookhaven Used Books at 1549 Commerce Road Saturday night. They met with the owner who said the store has been closed for a few years but was being used as storage.

“(The owner) stated that she came to the location to pick up her bill for rent,” the report says. “She stated that she noticed that some books were missing and boxes had been moved around. (She) stated that she did not have an inventory of what books were missing. She estimated that approximately 750 books were missing.”

The report says the burglary could have taken place between Oct. 7 and Saturday.

There were no signs of forced entry into the business, the report says.

Because of a lack of suspect information, the report says, Springfield police are continuing their investigation.
