“It’s going to be a pretty monumental task. We are doing it in two days. We are going to be doing about 1,300 to 1,400 vaccines per day. But we think that with pre-registering these people and working them through, we should be able to push that,” he said.
Doses will only be available to K-12 faculty who opted into being vaccinated with their districts, Patterson said.
“Let’s be really clear. Those are the numbers that were reported from each school district, public and private, in Clark County to the Educational Service Center. So if teachers and educators and custodians and bus drivers and secretaries, if they were on the fence and they said ‘I’m not sure if I want a vaccine or not’ we didn’t get a vaccine for them,” Patterson said. “We only got vaccines for those individuals who said ‘yes I want a dose here is my name put me on a list.’”
Employees who chose to opt into the vaccine will receive appointment scheduling information “directly from their employers,” Patterson said.
“Each district will have a point-person who will be able to help them. All of the teachers will be registering online. We will have those appointments available to them online. They will go on, schedule themselves and we will be ready to go,” Patterson said.
There is no reason for any K-12 employee to be “frantic” about wanting to schedule an appointment, Patterson said.
“If your name is Jane Doe, and you put your name in for a vaccine, there will be a vaccine with your name on it. There is no reason to panic. You’re going to get it,” Patterson said.
About 500 schools across the state are slated to begin vaccinating K-12 school staff as part of an effort to bring most students back to in-person or hybrid learning by March 1.
