Coronavirus: Cases in Clark, Champaign County school districts nearly double in one week

Eleven Clark County and one Champaign County school districts reported new cases of COVID-19 this week, according to the Ohio Department of Health’s COVID-19 school district dashboard.

In total, 47 students and staff cases were reported between the two counties, which is almost double from last week’s 26 cases on Nov. 5.

Catholic Central Schools, Clark County Educational Service Center, Clark-Shawnee Local School District, Cliff Park High School, Global Impact STEM Academy, Greenon Local School District, Northeastern Local School District, Northwestern Local School District, Springfield City School District, Springfield Preparatory and Fitness Academy, Tecumseh Local School District and Urbana City School District all reported new cases.

Catholic Central reported one staff case; Clark County ESC reported four staff cases; Clark-Shawnee reported one staff case; Cliff Park reported one student case; GISA reported two student cases; Greenon reported six student cases; Northeastern reported one student and one staff case; Northwestern reported four student and one staff case; Springfield reported eight student and eight staff cases; Springfield Preparatory reported one staff case; Tecumseh reported three student and two staff cases; and Urbana reported two student and one staff case.

Cases reported on the dashboard lag one week, meaning cases reported on Thursday were from the week of Nov. 3-9.

The dashboard tracks cases of COVID-19 in all public and private K-12 schools across the state. Data displayed on the board includes all student and staff cases broken into two categories: new and cumulative. The board is updated each Thursday.

Clark County had a total of 3,750 cases and 102 deaths of the coronavirus as of Thursday, according to ODH. Champaign County had a total of 626 cases and three deaths.
